What is the difference between the ZEN and the Apple ipod itouch?

What is the difference between The Zen and Apple iPod iTouch? My son is asking for the Apple itouch 2nd generation,but now I see The Zen. Thank you for your advice!

1. They basically do the same thing - music playing, internet surfing (if you have the relevant services), nifty applications and games, document organization. The difference is their different user interface, some prefer the zen style and the other prefer the apple. In terms of key functions, they share different buttons too. Many prefer apple since they have better applications and games because they are more independent person or group spending time developing it as a hobby.
